Polestar to Supply Batteries and Charging Systems to Candela

Polestar has signed a multi-year agreement to supply batteries and charging systems to electric hydrofoil boat company Candela.
The agreement is a first for Polestar and marks the start of broader collaboration and partnership between the automaker and Candela. Both companies are committed to exploring further opportunities for future collaboration.
The partnership is also one of the first direct battery technology collaborations between companies from the automotive and marine industries.
Candela's range of hydrofoil boats use an aeroplane-like wing to push the craft above the water line reducing drag and improving efficiency. In fact, the company says its boats can use up to 80% less energy at high speeds than traditional motorboats.
All its craft are propelled by the company's proprietary C-POD electric motor which it says is four times more efficient than other powerboats on the market.

"I am fascinated by the way Candela’s boats glide elegantly and efficient through, or better, over the water – amazing proof of the great aesthetics and experiences modern, sustainable technology can create," says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar's CEO.
"That Polestar will be part of future projects with Candela by supplying an essential part for the innovative propulsion of their boats, is awesome. As a battery supplier to Candela, we can help drive the transition to cleaner oceans and lakes, and electrify waterborne transport."
Candela currently has the C-8 electric speedboat with space for eight passengers and a range of 50 nautical miles at 22 knots and a top speed of 30 knots. This year, Candela should also launch the Candela P-8 Voyager taxi boat and the P-12 electric ferry, which will bring the company’s electric hydrofoil technology to commercial vessels.
"Polestar is a dream partner for us. While electrification of cars has come a long way in the last few years, the marine sector has fallen behind. Marrying our efficient hydrofoil technology to high-capacity batteries from Polestar means we can speed up the mass market adoption of electric boats together," says Gustav Hasselskog, Candela's CEO.
