GM s Cruise to Deploy Autonomous Vehicles on the Uber Platform

Uber Technologies, Inc. and GM's Cruise have announced a multiyear strategic partnership to bring Cruise autonomous vehicles (AVs) to the Uber platform. The companies plan to launch the partnership in 2025 with a dedicated number of Chevy Bolt-based AVs.

Once launched, when an Uber rider requests a qualifying ride on the Uber app, they may be presented with the option to have that trip fulfilled by a Cruise autonomous vehicle.

As well as GM, Cruise has received funding from other leading companies and investors - including Honda, Microsoft, T. Rowe Price, and Walmart.

Marc Whitten, Cruise's CEO, says: "“Cruise is on a mission to leverage driverless technology to create safer streets and redefine urban life. We are excited to partner with Uber to bring the benefits of safe, reliable, autonomous driving to even more people, unlocking a new era of urban mobility."

Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, adds: “As the largest mobility and delivery platform, we believe Uber can play an important role in helping to safely and reliably introduce autonomous technology to consumers and cities around the world. We’re thrilled to partner with Cruise and look forward to launching next year.”

Cruise s License to Operate Fully Autonomous Vehicles in California is Suspended

As of June 2024, Cruise has resumed supervised autonomous driving in Phoenix, Arizona, Houston and Dallas, Texas, in addition to its ongoing testing in Dubai.
