Nissan to Invest in Renault Group's EV & Software Unit, Ampere

Renault Group and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd have announced that they have agreed to strengthen the ties of their twenty-year old alliance to maximise value creation for all stakeholders. As part of the revamp, Nissan is to invest in Ampere, the EV and Software pure player founded by Renault Group, aiming to become a strategic shareholder.
Qualcomm is also a stakeholder in Ampere.
Renault already has partnerships with Google and Qualcomm Technologies, to create technologies that will enable the development of Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) including Centralized Electronic Architecture and Car OS.
Under terms of the allaince, the companies will concentrate on of key projects in Latin America, India and Europe, which would be deployed along 3 dimensions: markets, vehicles and technologies.
Nissan and Renault will retain a 15% cross-shareholding, with a lock-up obligation,
In a press statement, the companies say: 'The agreements are being finalised and the transaction remains subject to the approval of the boards of directors of Renault and Nissan. The alliance members plan to make an announcement immediately after the board approvals'.
