REE to Start Autonomous Cloud-Based Production in Coventry This Year

REE Automotive, which produces modular chassis for electric vehicles, is set to start building its platforms on a cloud-based and automated production line later this year.

REE, which is headquartered in Israel but maintains a strong presence in the UK, will start producing the platforms at its first European Integration Centre in Coventry.

The company says its cloud-based robotic manufacturing approach creates efficiency, saves money, and will help it scale flexibly.

The Coventry Integration Centre will start producing the REEcorner platforms later this year and is expected to be able to knock out 10,000 P7 versions designed for walk-in delivery vans, buses, and recreational vehicles this year.  

The site is set to be around 130,000 square feet and will be partially powered by solar energy.

“This is an important milestone on our path to commercial production next year. The automated and connected capabilities at our Coventry site are a great foundation for our global operations, as they will enable us to continuously fine-tune our assembly procedures and rapidly deploy them to other sites,” said Josh Tech, REE’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Our cloud-based robotic manufacturing system will be the digital backbone for our assembly lines and give us the local capability to manage our customer-specific manufacturing operations, while also allowing us to quickly share and scale best practices internationally across all plants.”

REE is also set to start producing its REEcorner platforms in a similar Integration Centre in Austin, Texas. This North American Integration Centre is expected to be capable of producing 10,000 vehicle sets (or 40,000 REEcorners) this year before doubling capacity in 2023 by replicating the autonomous cloud-based architecture from the Coventry site.
