Volvo Cars has unveiled the all-electric Volvo EX30, its smallest SUV to date. It is offered with three powertrain options and two different battery types.
This single-motor, extended range option offers a range of up to 480km between charges.
The extended-range Twin Motor variant has a charging capacity of up to 153kW, while the standard-range car has a capacity of 134kW. That means the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in a little over 25 minutes.
The all-wheel drive variant provides 315kW (428hp), and takes the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. This makes it officially Volvo's fastest-accelerating car ever.
The new model features a single-screen UX with Google built-in, and runs the latest version of Volvo's infotainment system,
It also includes a special safety feature for bikes that helps to prevent so-called ‘dooring’ accidents, by alerting drivers when they are about to open a door in front of a cyclist, scooter or runner.
The Volvo EX30 is now available for order across Europe, and other selected markets.
Jim Rowan, CEO Volvo Cars, says: “We know that price and cost of ownership is still one of the biggest challenges when people consider switching to an electric car,” said Jim Rowan, our chief executive. “With the Volvo EX30, we aim to bring premium, fully electric mobility to a much broader audience, helping to advance and speed up the transition to full electrification that our industry and society needs.”
“With subscriptions for the EX30 starting at EUR 599 per month, we strongly believe this car will be an attractive choice for many customers – not just for our existing customers but also to those who are new to the Volvo brand,” adds Björn Annwall, chief commercial officer and deputy CEO Volvo Cars. “That will allow us to create new customer relationships and boost customer retention over time.”
By 2030, Volvo Cars plans to sell only fully electric models.
