Waymo to Offers Free Driverless Robotaxi Rides to the Public in Los Angeles

Alphabet has committed an extra $5 billion to Waymo, its self-driving unit. Waymo One is its public, fully autonomous ride-hailing service.

Alphabet is the parent company of Google.

The ride-hailing service operates in Metro Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and in Austin, Texas.

Riders can use the Waymo One app to hail one of its autonomously driven vehicles (with no human driver in the front seat!) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It's been operating in San Francisco for many years, with tens of thousands of weekly trips.

The service is now available to anyone, 24 hours a day.

Tekedra N Mawakana, Waymo's Co-CEO, posted on X: "We are grateful for their immense vote of confidence in our team and recognizing the amazing progress we’ve made with our technology, product, and commercialization efforts."

In Los Angeles, Waymo is currently operating across 63 square miles from Santa Monica to Downtown LA.
