The UK's Watt Electric Vehicle Company (WEVC) has announced a partnership with ETRUX, an electric commercial vehicle specialist. The collaboration will see WEVC’s electric vehicle platform technology adapted by ETRUX into offerings for the commercial vehicle market.
Designed for production of up to 5000 vehicles per annum, WEVC’s Watt eCV1 3.5-tonne cab and chassis unit enables a wide range of electric commercial vehicle designs.
The new platform enables an ergonomic cabin focused around a central driving position, allowing kerbside exit for driver safety and one, two or three seat configurations.
The first results of WEVC/ETRUX development partnership will be unveiled at the CV (Commercial Vehicle) Show at the Birmingham NEC in April, in the form of a prototype WATT eCV1 chassis cab complete with ETRUX body conversion, which will feature on the ETRUX stand.
ETRUX is a UK-based manufacturer that assists in the transition of vehicle fleets to carbon zero.
Neil Yates, CEO of WEVC, says: “We are delighted to be working with ETRUX, a company which offers the engineering skills, innovative materials and depth of understanding to deliver an outstanding range of electric commercial vehicles to the market utilising our eCV1 platform. This is an exciting time for WEVC as we take the first steps in seeing our electric commercial vehicle platform adapted for a wide range of applications and uses.”
ETRUX CEO, Gerard Galvin, adds: “The eCV1 prototype is really exciting, as it gives us the freedom to create vehicles that meet our customers’ needs more than ever before. With this platform, which has been designed to be electric from the ground up, we don’t have to work around the compromises that the industry traditionally faces, especially with electric vans derived from diesel bodies."
Watt Electric Vehicles is a technology leader in the niche EV passenger, sportscar and light commercial vehicle sectors with production facilities in Cornwall and the Midlands in the UK.
